The Dentist

The kids had a dentist appointment Friday. Teagan has been going to this dentist since he was Jade's age but this was Jade's first visit. Teagan wasn't having the best day. He was very unhappy about being pulled out of school early. Some people were coming to talk to the kids about health and they had some really cool goodies they were going to give the kids. I really don't blame him for being upset. I would be too.

When we were almost to the dentist (an hour and a half trip) Teagan started complaining about his ears hurting. He has been really stuffed up for days. I'm wasn't surprised his ears were bothering him. When we were almost there he was so upset and crying saying it hurt. We stopped at a store first and got some chewable tylenol. That seemed to help the pain fairly quickly but he still didn't feel well.

After some difficulty with Jade in the waiting room (mostly fits because she wanted tylenol too) we finally got in. Teagan was thrilled to watch spongebob from his dentist chair but was in no mood to try to be friendly with the hygienist. Jade was intrigued with the whole process as she cleaned his teeth. She held her mouth open the whole time as if she were being worked on.


They were ready for Jade in the room across the hall. Ian went with her because I can't get her to open her mouth but he seems to have some magical power. I swear if he had to go away for a month her back teeth would rot out because she won't let me brush them properly. I resort to nose plugging when I'm really desperate. I snapped a few pictures while they waited. Apparently Jade did a great job. Her favorite tool was the suction wand (not sure the official name).




Then Dr. Jurgenson came in. He is amazing. We gladly wait a month and drive an hour and a half to see him. He worked on Teagan when he was Jade's age and since as I said before. We brought Teagan in when he was about two because we couldn't figure out why his two front teeth were rotting out. Xrays showed they were rotting from the end of the root down.

Another dentist we had gone to before told us it was bottle rot. Of course he didn't bother to actually check and didn't believe us that bottle rot was not possible. Apparently that dentist was not aware of how paranoid first time moms can be. He had no idea I knew every cause of it and avoided them all. So Dr. Jurgenson was our savior and made us feel like the good parents we were trying our best to be. He showed us it was nothing we could have done anything about.

He checked Teagan's teeth and this time and he did have two cavities. That wasn't surprising. We had been watching one for over a year. Plus the poor child has had terrible luck with his teeth so far. Jade was next. She sat in the chair by herself to be examined. She did well and her teeth were perfect. Thank goodness.

We got her out of the chair and Teagan ran down the hall to get her a toy. Dr. Jurgenson was so impressed with Teagan because they only had girl toys left. He thought it was really sweet of him to think of his sister rather than be upset they didn't have toys for him. So did we. Jade after accepting her toy climbed back into the dentist chair for another go.

She was not happy to be removed. We went and made our next appointments then we were done. After a short trip to Walmart we went for chinese food and headed home. It was a nice day. I love going to the dentist.

No Blog In So Long!

No I haven't gotten bored with blogging. I've just been really sick a lot. I have a anti computer thing when I feel nauseous. Anti phone thing too. Apparently electronic devices increase my nausea. I felt great last week and today I'm okay but it's time to do some blogging regardless.

Oddly not a whole lot has been going on. Wrestling season is over. The moment that was done Ian got a new calling with the young men at church. I think he is the Teachers Advisor. I'm not sure that is his official title. He also planned to pick up two sports for himself but I think he has narrowed it down to freestyle wrestling.

Freestyle starts this week. Teagan is going to do it too. Teagan was in wrestling during the season but now he will have his Dad with him so I think they will have a lot of fun together. Freestyle wrestling is one of Ian's goals for 2009 so it looks like we will be going to a few tournaments.

I've been doing the bare minimum which is getting a little depressing. Meals, clean clothes as needed, dishes not often enough, picking up here and there but I never seem to have enough energy to really put a dent in it. Today I've made myself a list. I figure marking things off will give me a sense of accomplishment.

Teagan is doing great. When asked the other day if he loves his family he said, "Yeah when they don't sleep so much.". I think he is getting a little tired of me being tired. Today he is having a friend over so he is thrilled about that. He is doing great in school. At this quarter end his teacher send home an assessment and he got 100% when I quizzed him on it.

Jade is talking more and more. She loves animals more than anything right now. We pulled up to the Reid's yesterday to look at puppies and before we even got out of the car Jade says, "Woof!". We have found only one animal she doesn't like and that is pigs. She is fearless with the dogs though. They can be as big as her and she holds her ground petting them while they lick her face.

Speaking of dogs we were there to look at a puppies for a reason. We are finally going to take the plunge and get a dog. I told Ian I'm scared this place is turning into a zoo. We picked out a really adorable one. Ian picked it out actually and I couldn't agree more that he was the most adorable of the litter. For Ian and I to agree so fully it must be meant to be. Funny we didn't give the kids a choice at all. Can you tell how invested in this we are?

We just need to settle the terms and Jade is going to get a living breathing present for her birthday. It will be our family dog but she will be thrilled. I'm thrilled because it's very similar to the dog I had when I was a kid and he was wonderful. I always wanted to have another dog like that. We still have not fence and I don't see one in the future so I'm thinking chain for now shock collar for later. Suggestions are welcome.

Our garden is doing fine. I really need to get up the gumption to plant some new things. We found we don't want to eat half the lettuce we planted. Some lettuce is tastes really yucky. Now we know for next year. The lettuce we like a gopher is stealing. Yeah like on Looney Tunes. The little bugger digs under my garden eats the root and then next thing in know a whole head of lettuce is gone. He pulls it into the hole. I think he has stolen about four heads so far. Ian is trying to catch him.

We are enjoying the chickens. Thank you so much Trish. They lay the very pretty green eggs. I've only had to buy eggs once since we got them. We have learned a few things there as well. I think our coup is a little small. We could actually fit a couple more hens in there but it's not convenient for egg collecting. The nest boxes are so small the hens won't use them at all. Someday when we move we will build a bigger one and add about four more hens. We are just learning everyday.

I think that is about it. I'm getting ready for Jade's birthday party. We really need to get the yard cleaned up. It's a sad mess since I've been feeling sick. I'm not outside taking care of things and Ian isn't because he is helping me with the kids. I think we will have it good as new this week though. It's warming up. It will be nice to get out the kiddie pool and enjoy the yard. My life not very exciting right now. Hopefully you guys are doing some fun stuff.
